Chicago Stars FC Preseason Updates for 2026
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2026, Chicago Stars FC revealed significant updates regarding their preseason roster, coaching staff, and training schedule as they prepare for their inaugural season under head coach Martin Sjgren. The team will commence preseason activities in Bridgeview, Illinois, before relocating to Murcia, Spain from February 1 to February 19. During their time in Spain, Chicago is set to compete against Danish club HB Kge on February 6 and Spanish team Alhama CF on February 11, with an additional friendly match to be announced shortly.
The preseason roster includes thirty players; however, three will be unavailable initially: Mallory Swanson is on maternity leave, Jameese Joseph is with the United States Women's National Team, and Mackenzie Wood is recovering from a previous injury. Joseph is expected to rejoin the squad for the Spain trip.
Coach Sjgren has expanded his staff by adding Sebastian Larsson as head of performance, along with assistant coach Mariana Cabral and goalkeeper coach Daniel Ball. Notably, Brenton Saylor and Jimmy Haley will not return for the 2026 season.
Additionally, four rookie non-rostered invitees will participate in preseason activities, including Maya Matesa, Hannah Gryzik, Morgan McDonald, and Makenzie Malham.
